Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple
About the Temple
Located in Secunderabad, this ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Mahakali is one of the oldest and most powerful Shakti temples in Telangana. The deity is known as 'Ujjaini Mahakali' because the idol was brought from Ujjain.
History: The temple was built in the 19th century by the Maratha rulers during the Nizam period. The main idol was brought from the famous Mahakali temple in Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh).
Significance: The temple is famous for its Bonalu festival, one of the biggest festivals in Telangana. The goddess is considered the 'Gram Devata' (village deity) of the twin cities.
