Sri Vidyashankara Temple (Sringeri)
About the Temple
Located at Sringeri, this temple was built by the Sringeri Sharada Peetham, the first of the four Amnaya Peethams established by Adi Shankaracharya. The temple is built in a unique style combining Hoysala and Dravidian architecture.
History: The temple was built in the 14th century by the Vijayanagara rulers on the site of the original shrine established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.
Significance: Sringeri is one of the four cardinal mathas established by Adi Shankaracharya. The Sharadamba Temple here is one of the most important centers of Advaita Vedanta.
