About the Temple
The famous Krishna temple established by the Vaishnavite saint Madhvacharya. The unique feature: Lord Krishna's idol faces west and is seen through a nine-hole window (Navagraha Kitiki).
History: The temple was established in the 13th century by Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita philosophy. According to legend, the idol of Krishna was found inside a large ball of gopichandana (clay) that arrived by ship.
Significance: The temple is the center of the Dvaita school of Hindu philosophy. The Kanakana Kindi (a small window through which Krishna is seen) is famous. The temple has a unique 6-month cycle where the deity's sannidhi (residence) changes in Paryaya ceremony.
