Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple (Srisailam)
About the Temple
One of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India and one of the 18 Shakti Peethas, located on the Nallamala hills overlooking the Krishna River. The temple is a massive structure built in Nagara and Dravidian architectural styles.
History: The temple dates back to the 7th century and has been expanded by the Satavahanas, Vijayanagara empire, and other dynasties. According to legend, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati came here as Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba to answer the prayers of their devotees.
Significance: Srisailam is one of only a few temples that is both a Jyotirlinga (Shiva) and a Shakti Peetha (Devi), making it highly revered in both Shaivism and Shaktism.
