Taittiriya Upanishad - Chapter 1

Om. May Mitra be auspicious to us; may Varuna be auspicious; may Aryaman be auspicious; may Indra and Brihaspati be auspicious; may Vishnu of wide strides be auspicious. Salutation to Brahman. Salutation to you, O Vayu — you are indeed the directly perceived Brahman. I shall declare you as the directly perceived Brahman. I shall speak the cosmic truth. I shall speak personal truth. May that protect me. May that protect the teacher. May it protect me. May it protect the teacher.

We shall explain phonetics: sound, accent, quantity, force, evenness, and continuity. Thus is stated the chapter on phonetics.

Speak truth. Practice dharma. Do not neglect self-study. Having brought pleasing wealth to the teacher, do not cut the thread of progeny.

Let your mother be your god. Let your father be your god. Let your teacher be your god. Let the guest be your god.

Blameless actions should be practiced, not others. Whatever good conduct of ours you have seen — that should be followed by you.

Om. May Mitra be auspicious to us; may Varuna be auspicious; may Aryaman be auspicious; may Indra and Brihaspati be auspicious.

Om. May He protect us both. May He nourish us both. May we work together with vigor. May our study be brilliant. May we not hate each other.
