Chapter 2 of 18 0 verses
← Previous Next →

The Uttararchika (Second Part) of the Sama Veda contains 957 verses organized into 150 melodic groups (stotras). This section is primarily used in the various Soma sacrifices, particularly the Agnishtoma, Ukthya, Shodashin, Atiratra, and other Sama samsthas. The Uttararchika contains the secret (Rahasya) melodies reserved for the most advanced practitioners, as well as the concluding chants (Nidhana saman). The melodies of the Uttararchika are more complex and esoteric than those of the Purvarchika, requiring specialized training. This part is essential for the Udgatri priest who chants the Sama Veda during Vedic sacrifices.
