Adhyaya 5 - Pashubandha (Animal Sacrifice) - Part 1

Chapter 5 of 18 0 verses

This Adhyaya begins the Pashubandha (animal sacrifice) ritual, describing the selection and consecration of the sacrificial animal, the construction of the sacrificial post (yupa), and the binding of the animal. The mantras invoke the consent of the gods and the various parts of the animal are dedicated to different deities. In modern practice, the animal is symbolic, replaced by vegetable offerings.
