Mandala 3 - Vishvamitra (Includes Gayatri Mantra)

Mandala 3 contains 62 hymns attributed to the seer Vishvamitra. This Mandala is most famous for containing the Gayatri Mantra (3.62.10), the most sacred verse in Hinduism addressed to Savitr (the sun god). The hymns are predominantly addressed to Agni and Indra, with significant hymns to the Visvedevas and Pushan. The Mandala also contains the famous hymn describing the creation of the universe from the cosmic sacrifice.
